Managing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Chinese Supply Chains

The ChallengeOur StrategyOur ImpactLessons LearnedFor manufacturing companies, the supply chain typically accounts for 70 to 80 percent of lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions. Much of these emissions are found in China, which contributes to approximately a quarter of global emissions annually, as well as the majority of emissions from products for export. For these reasons, many companies that are serious about addressing climate change are seeking to manage supply chain emissions, with a focus on this region. But they face obstacles, many of which are common among emerging markets: Suppliers’ ability and readiness to manage emissions vary widely, making it hard to rely on a standard approach with all suppliers. In addition, policy incentives are not sufficient to encourage factories to upgrade inefficient equipment and systems. And climate change often takes a back seat to other, more visible supply chain agendas, including labor conditions, worker safety and fires, and toxic spills.Get price

Greenhouse gas and reservoirs research pushes forward in China

Sep 17, 2015 · Greenhouse gas and reservoirs research pushes forward in China. Although recent studies have shown that the gross greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Chinese reservoirs were not as high as previously estimated, there are nonetheless increased efforts to measure the GHG exchanges of reservoirs in China. Current research looks at how the creation of a new reservoir could potentially impact on the quantity of GHG emissions, which are naturally produced by all freshwater bodies.Get price

ChinaGreenhouse Gas Emissions - Skeptical Science

CFC-11 EmissionsPromoting CoalConsequencesCounter ActionThe 1987 Montreal Protocol has been signed by China and 197 other countries. The Protocol commits all countries to abolish production and use of ozone depleting halocarbon gasses to zero by 2010 because they destroy the ozone layerwhich protects the earths surface from harmful ultra violet radiation. Halocarbonsare also very powerful greenhouse gasses, particularly CFC-11 which has a lifetimein the atmosphere of 45 years or more The Kigali Amendment (2016) further requires phase-down of all hydrofluorocarbon gasses which have a greenhouse effect, some of which can be used as a substitute for halocarbons. If all countries had complied with the Montreal Protocol, it should have been expected that global CFC-11 emissions would have fallen sharply after 1995 when developed countries were required to reduce their production and use and to zero by 2010 when all other countries ceased production. However, as show in Fig. 1, this is not what has happened. Fig. 1. Decline in CFC-11 emissions...Get price

Greenhouse gas emissions by China - Wikipedia

Greenhouse gas emissions by China are the largest of any country in the world both in production and consumption terms, and stem mainly from coal electricity generation and mining. When measuring production-based emissions, China emitted over 12 gigatonnes CO2eq of greenhouse gases in 2014; almost 30% of the world total. This corresponds to over 7 tonnes CO2eq emitted per person each year, slightly over the world average and the EU average but less than half the second largest emitter of greenhoGet price

Greenhouse gas - Methane | Britannica

Greenhouse gas - Greenhouse gas - Methane: Methane (CH4) is the second most important greenhouse gas. CH4 is more potent than CO2 because the radiative forcing produced per molecule is greater. In addition, the infrared window is less saturated in the range of wavelengths of radiation absorbed by CH4, so more molecules may fill in the region. However, CH4 exists in far lower concentrationsGet price

What Is sf 6? and How Is It used?Is Sulfr hexafluoride A Danger to Human Health? How Environmentally Damaging Is It?Has The Environmental Impact Even Been Underestimated? Is The Mitigation of sf 6 Emissions Difficult? Do Better Solutions Exist?Conclusioninsulating gas is a long-lived, highly potent greenhouse gas. It is manmade and combines excellent electrical properties with chemical stability and low toxicity. Moreover, It’s non-flammable and low in cost. These characteristics have led to its widespread and enthusiastic adoption by the electrical industry, which uses approximately 80% of all sf6 gasproduced (Powell, 2002: 6). Within the electrical industry insulating gasis used as an insulating medium for medium (MV) and high (HV) voltage electrical switchgear. A switchgear is the combination of electrical disconnect switches, fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect and isolate sections of electrical grids. Low-voltage (LV) switchgear are used for controlling electrical circuits within buildings, medium voltage (MV) switchgear for controlling the electrical grids within cities and towns, and high voltage (HV) switchgear for grids that span a greater geographical area such as countries and regions.Get price
